Tincture defined
— Alcohol-water extraction for shelf-stable concentrates.

The definition
Concentrated liquid extract using alcohol (typically 25-95% by volume) as the solvent. Shelf-stable for 3-5+ years. Dosed in drops to milliliters. Standard form in clinical Western herbal practice.
Mechanism
Alcohol extracts both water-soluble and lipid-soluble constituents that water alone cannot, and preserves the extract indefinitely as long as alcohol concentration stays above ~20%.
