Euodia daniellii

Euodia daniellii is a shrub or small tree in the family Rutaceae, capable of reaching roughly 15 metres in height. It is native to a broad sweep of China, taking in the North-Central, South-Central, and Southeastern regions as well as Inner Mongolia, Manchuria, Qinghai, and Tibet. Across this wide range it occupies temperate settings, favouring full sun to partial shade and moist rather than dry ground, and it is not considered drought resistant. It tolerates light sandy, medium, and heavy clay soils, and is rated hardy in zones 9 to 11. The species is grown for its oil, which gives it its main practical utility, and that oil is recorded as an edible use. Its combination of a shrubby to tree-like growth habit with tolerance of varied soils makes it relevant both as an ornamental and as a cultivated plant. Because it naturally occupies milder temperate regions, it may need some protection from extreme cold when grown outside its native area, and propagation is reported through seeds or cuttings.
