Acerola

Acerola, scientifically known as Malpighia emarginata, is a small tree or shrub native to the tropical regions of Central and Northern South America. It thrives in areas with full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils that are light (sandy), medium, or heavy (clay). Hardy in zones 10-12, this plant can grow up to 4 meters tall. Known for its edible fruit, which is rich in vitamin C, Acerola is both ornamental and useful as a food source in its native range including Belize, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico Gulf, Mexico Northeast, Mexico Northwest, Mexico Southeast, and Mexico Southwest. One distinctive feature of this plant is its light requirement; it can adapt to various sunlight conditions but generally prefers full sun or partial shade for optimal growth.
