California Broomrape

California Broomrape (Orobanche californica) is a parasitic plant found in the wild from British Columbia to California and into Mexico's northwest region, as well as Oregon and Washington. This perennial thrives in moist environments with light soil types—ranging from sandy to heavy clay—and prefers partial sun to full shade. Known for its edible root, it can be an interesting addition to gardens or natural settings where it can parasitize nearby host plants without needing much care. Its distinctive feature lies in its ability to grow to only about 0.1 meters tall while obtaining nutrients directly from its hosts.
