While primarily ornamental, it also has edible value, with its seeds being the usable part. The grass is hardy in zones 5-9, making it adaptable to a range of climates from Manchuria to Western Australia. Its distinctive feature lies in its feathery plumes that resemble flowing fountains, giving it its common name and adding aesthetic appeal to gardens and landscapes.
