Fomentation defined
— Hot herbal cloth applied to skin.

The definition
Cloth soaked in hot herbal infusion or decoction, wrung out, and applied to the body. Used for muscle aches, joint pain, congestion, and to drive deep absorption of plant constituents.
Mechanism
Heat opens skin pores and improves circulation; the herbal infusion delivers constituents transdermally.
