Vegetable Hummingbird

Native to Jawa, Malaya, New Guinea, and the Philippines, this plant thrives in moist, wet conditions with light soil that can be sandy, medium, or clay-like. It requires full sun and a pH range of 5.5 to 7 for optimal growth. Known for its edible parts—flowers, leaves, seeds, seedpods, and shoots—it is both ornamental and useful as a food source in its native regions. One distinctive feature of Vegetable Hummingbird is its large, showy flowers that attract hummingbirds, making it an attractive addition to gardens where these birds are present.
