Japanese whitebeam

Sorbus japonica, commonly known as Japanese rowan, is a deciduous tree native to China's south-central and southeast regions, Japan, Korea, the Kuril Islands, and Sakhalin. This plant thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist soil that can be light (sandy), medium, or heavy (clay). It is hardy in zones 5-9 and can grow up to 20 meters tall. Known for its edible fruit, Sorbus japonica is both ornamental and useful as a food source. Its distinctive feature includes clusters of white flowers followed by bright red berries that attract birds and add color to the landscape during fall.
