Antispasmodic defined

Relieves smooth-muscle cramping.

The definition

Plants that reduce involuntary muscle spasms in the gut, uterus, bronchi, or skeletal muscle. Indications include menstrual cramps, IBS, asthma, and tension headaches.

Mechanism

Calcium-channel modulation, parasympathetic blockade (atropine-like), or generalised smooth-muscle relaxation via volatile constituents.
