Phytoestrogen defined

Plant compound with estrogen-like activity.

The definition

Plant compounds (isoflavones, lignans, coumestans) that bind weakly to estrogen receptors. Used in menopausal symptoms, PMS, and some hormone-balance protocols. Mostly mild compared to pharmaceutical hormones.

Mechanism

Selective estrogen receptor modulation — agonist or antagonist depending on tissue and ambient estrogen levels.
