Emmenagogue defined
— Promotes menstrual flow.

The definition
Plants that stimulate menstruation. Traditional indications include amenorrhoea, scanty periods, and uterine stagnation. CAUTION: many emmenagogues are contraindicated in pregnancy.
Mechanism
Direct uterine stimulation, hormone modulation (progesterone-like or estrogen-like constituents), or pelvic vasodilation.
