Crataegus pentagyna

Crataegus pentagyna, commonly known as the five-seeded hawthorn, belongs to the Rosaceae family and is native to regions including Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Iran, Iraq, Krym, North Caucasus, Romania, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Yugoslavia. This deciduous shrub or small tree thrives in moist to wet conditions with a preference for light (sandy), medium, or heavy (clay) soils. It requires full sun to partial shade and is hardy in zones 5-9. C. pentagyna is both edible and medicinal; its fruit can be consumed, while the plant has documented uses in traditional medicine. One distinctive feature of this species is its light-colored wood, which contrasts with its dense clusters of white or pink flowers in spring followed by small, red berries in autumn.
