Crataegus sanguinea

Crataegus sanguinea, commonly known as the hawthorn or midland hawthorn, is a deciduous shrub native to the western and northern regions of North America, including Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, California, Idaho, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Ontario, Oregon, Saskatchewan, Washington, and Wisconsin. This plant thrives in moist to wet soils and prefers light (sandy), medium, or heavy (clay) soil types. It can grow up to 6 meters tall and is known for its edible fruit and documented medicinal use. The hawthorn grows best in full sun to partial shade and is hardy in zones 4-8. Its distinctive features include light-colored bark and thorny branches, making it both ornamental and useful in various applications.
